SBS Earth: Speaker Applications are LIVE 🌱
We’re excited to announce that SBS Earth, the inaugural virtual Sustainable Blockchain Summit, will take place on August 16, 2023! Speaker applications are LIVE until June 20th and you can submit your application here; industry leaders, web3 innovators, and sustainability enthusiasts are all encouraged to apply!

Grantee Highlight: GainForest🌱
One of our Filecoin Green grants recipients, GainForest, has reached the semi-finals of the $10 Million XPRIZE Rainforest competition! XPRIZE Rainforest winners “…will develop novel technologies to rapidly and comprehensively survey rainforest biodiversity and use that data to improve our understanding of this complex ecosystem.” GainForest is a decentralized fund using AI to measure and reward sustainable nature stewardship and enable more transparency into deforestation prevention efforts. Here’s more information from the GainForest team on how YOU can help: “Do you appreciate and love other species on earth as much as we do? I'm sharing with you nature lovers an opportunity to help save rainforests around the world by volunteering some time online at the Rainforest XPRIZE. We, a team at ETH Zurich university, are competing in the Semi Finals on June 7 & 8 (one of 13 remaining teams out of 300). The goal: to identify as many animals and plants as possible on 100ha (10000000m2) Singapore National Park. The gist: We need to know what is there, so that we can save it! Our strategy: create a synergy between tech (robots and AI) and human community power (called Citizen Science). While our self driving and flying robots collect videos, photos, and audio recordings, anyone (like you and I) can help identify the species from your desks. Are you in? Green SPs and the Energy Validation Process!
Recent research of Filecoin Storage Providers (blog post coming soon!) has revealed that almost a third of Filecoin SPs are engaged in sustainability practices currently while another third intend to engage in the next 12 months! With many Web2 competitors already being carbon neutral or on track to be so in the next couple of years, carbon neutral data storage will be a minimum requirement for many industries and clients going forward.
