When Filecoin first launched, it had an ambitious goal: to be the incentivized persistence layer for IPFS. Over time, centralized pinning services emerged to serve demand for IPFS persistence, but this created central failure points and vendor lock-in. And until now, bridging these two systems has been anything but simple.

With Filecoin Pin, developers will be able to persist any file or existing IPFS data on the Filecoin network of decentralized and globally distributed storage providers using familiar workflows and IPFS tooling. IPFS pins now come with Filecoin’s verifiable storage guarantees and the ability to persist IPFS files with crypto wallet payments. Filecoin Pin isn’t a static product; it’s a proof of concept for what can be built on this foundation of onchain services. It’s designed to be cloned, forked, and extended!

Storacha and Presearch announced a partnership connecting decentralized storage with decentralized search. Through their collaboration, Storacha handles data through Filecoin, while Presearch indexes that data through its distributed search network, ensuring that once data is created, it remains fast, verifiable, and accessible without relying on a single provider.

Filecoin Foundation (FF) announced a major milestone: more than one million cultural and scientific artifacts are now preserved on the Filecoin network. This includes new datasets from Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), Earth Species Project (ESP), Oceanic Whispers with RadicalXChange, Prelinger Archives, and the Rohingya Project. This new milestone underscores how decentralized infrastructure is being used to ensure long-term preservation and resilience for humanity’s information.
