🤝 Filecoin & ConsenSys Partnership

Last week, we announced Protocol Labs’ expanded collaboration with ConsenSys, one of the most trusted software engineering leaders in the Ethereum space. The new collaboration between ConsenSys Labs and Protocol Labs is bringing together the Filecoin and Ethereum ecosystems to drive the next generation of the web. Already, the collaboration has generated Filecoin Storage and Filecoin Defi Bridge from ConsenSys Codefi, MetaMask’s Snaps, Infura’s Filecoin Network API, Secondary Retrieval Mining research with ConsenSys R&D, and this past summer’s Tachyon Launchpad Accelerator.

⚡️ Filecoin Frontier Accelerator

LongHash Ventures has just announced the launch of the Filecoin Frontier Accelerator, a 12 week program to fuel the growth of major projects on the world’s largest decentralized storage network. LongHash Ventures is a recognized blockchain accelerator with a global network established across key technological hubs including Singapore, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.

Projects accepted to the Accelerator will receive an upfront grant of $20,000 USD. The Filecoin Frontier Accelerator is now accepting applications through November 15th, with the program to take place in February 2021. Learn more and apply here

𑁍 Lotus JS Client

The Lotus JS client docs just got a major overhaul and Typescript type declarations were added! If you need to speak to a Lotus node from JS then take a look.

🐞 Bug Bounty Program

We created a program to reward all security researchers, hackers and security aficionados that invest time into finding bugs on the Filecoin protocol and its respective implementations. We invite all security researchers to join us in maintaining the security of the Filecoin Network. Learn more.

📂 Filecoin Archive & Recommendations

The Filecoin Archive is a collaboration with Filecoin and the Internet Archive project to select important datasets of information and preserve them on the Filecoin network. This community-driven effort needs your help deciding what information to select! Anyone can suggest an idea by tweeting it and tagging #FilecoinArchives. The Internet Archive and Protocol Labs will gather your suggestions, publish the full list, and curate a subset for preservation on the Filecoin network - which then anyone can help replicate. ☄️ SR2: Slingshot

Slingshot Phase 1 is in the books, and Phase 2 has begun! Phase 1 saw over 650TiB of data stored to the Filecoin network across more than 520,000 deals from 100 projects in 19 countries! As a result of their efforts, these competitors earned 59,850FIL in an overall reward pool. Congratulations to these teams!

Catch up on Phase 1 by watching the closing ceremony here or reading this blog post. And Phase 2 has begun! We are still finalizing the details (will be announced by November 9 here), but eligible data stored right now will still be counted towards Phase 2 rewards. Guidance on data eligibility and more can be found in this Filecoin Slack announcement. Happy Slingshotting!

📸 Slate

Slate is a platform for storing and sharing photos and files using Filecoin and IPFS. Since launch, Slate has grown to more than three thousand user accounts. To mark this moment we have launched Slate System 2.0, which is a completely reworked layout engine to make slates even more flexible for collecting, organizing, and sharing files. We've added some awesome new tools to give you more control over the look and feel of your slates. Resize, reorder, and overlap. Just hit the edit button to take for a spin. Lastly, we added some quick actions to files and made it super easy to connect files to slates from anywhere in the network. We're really excited to explore the bi-directional relationship between your data and other humans, this is just the beginning. Want to help us store valuable human data on the Filecoin network? Check out some examples from the Slate community to get inspired.

⚒ The Future of Filecoin Mining

During Liftoff Week, Filecoin engineering lead Whyrusleeping explored the Future of Filecoin Mining. He discussed implementation updates, market improvements, validation optimizations, retrieval mining, and future network services. If you missed it, watch the recording here.

✨ Spec Upgrade

Over the last few months, the Filecoin team has made massive progress revamping the Filecoin Specification and its custom website! There are a myriad of updates, which together made the spec more than 6x more accurate, achieving an outstanding 85% completeness score with many of the remaining details already in progress. Contributing to and consulting the spec has also been improved dramatically due to new workflows, status badges, search and more.

If you haven’t visited the Filecoin Spec recently, head over to: https://spec.filecoin.io/ to see a fully refurbished website, full of updated content.

💻 ProtoSchool

Study up on Filecoin basics! ProtoSchool’s Verifying Storage on Filecoin tutorial offers a beginner-friendly, code-free look at Filecoin’s proof system, exploring how Proof of Replication (PoRep), Proof of Storage (PoSt), and zkSNARKs make it possible to trust peers in an incentivized, decentralized storage system. This tutorial is the cornerstone of ProtoSchool’s Filecoin course, which also covers core dweb concepts like content addressing and cryptographic hashing.
