Browsers

Mission Grow the implementation and adoption of IPFS, Filecoin, and Web3 technologies by browser engines, operating systems, and core developer tools. Nurture the acceptance and integration of IPFS, Filecoin, and Web3 technologies in decision-making circles at standards bodies. Identify and execute on opportunities to leapfrog Web2 by leveraging the openness of the web platform as an unfair advantage against incumbent hegemons.

Vision

Introduce content addressing, cryptographically verifiable data, and transport-agnostic applications that can be deployed to users through mainstream web browsers.

Highlight

The Pin Tweet to IPFS browser extension was launched in early January!

It’s a browser add-on that lets you archive a tweet to IPFS and Filecoin through Web3.storage, to preserve it in case the author deletes it - a valuable tool for historians and mis/disinformation activists.

Engineering

Mission The Engineering group at Outercore is obsessed with open source. The team builds production examples with real users in the ecosystem so anyone can learn from what the Engineering group does. The group is passionate about building the future of the distributed p2p web and accelerating progress for computer and infrastructure development in the world.

Vision

The Engineering group at Outercore consists of engineers, designers, and infrastructure managers who want to make it easy for every developer to adopt Filecoin.

Updates

  • In 2022, an engineering team was created to research applications to build on top of Filecoin. In 2023, the team is doubling down on Estuary to make it ready for Enterprise business and to support the developer base using the FVM. Read more about the Engineering group’s priorities and what is envisioned for the rest of the year.

  • The team prepared a proposal to help reduce spending on Estuary from over $40k a month to under $5k a month, with savings that go beyond $800k a year!

  • The group has officially moved away from AWS!

Network Growth

Mission Build and support programs, incentive mechanisms, and tools to drive data onboarding. Build and grow a solid ecosystem of enterprise-grade providers delivering killer storage services to successfully displace Web2 services and support the growth of Web3 Dapps. Drive accelerated growth and a higher quality network through smart strategic programs, vendor relationships, and SP investments. Goals - Q4 OKRs Objective 1: Accelerate the data onboarding rate and hit 350PiB total Objective 2:Increase the supply share of high quality mid-size SPs Objective 3: Build and understand thriving communities Vision

The team’s vision is to place Filecoin as the leading data platform for data owners and service providers.

  • NonEntropy Japan Case Study - NonEntropy Japan is a hardware and software company that uses Filecoin network protocols to store data.

  • Konvergence Case Study - Konvergence is a Web3 software development company that’s bringing decentralized data storage and protection solutions to every internet user.

  • DCENT Case Study - DCENT is a Filecoin storage provider with its founding roots in Ethereum mining. DCENT sets itself apart from other storage providers by committing to minimizing its carbon footprint by generating plenty of renewable energy.

  • Environmental Impact Playbook - Each quarter, the Storage Provider Marketing Team selects a theme that SPs can focus their selling efforts around. In Q4, a playbook was created for selling to clients that are concerned about their carbon footprints.

PL Ventures

Mission PL Ventures focuses on incubating, funding, and supporting startups. Vision

PL Ventures will evaluate and invest in projects that are building in the ecosystem, in the broader Web3 space, or those inventing new computing paradigms.

Last Month's Wins

  • QuickNode raised a $60M Series B led by 10T Fund with participation from Tiger Global, QED Investors, 776 Fund, and Protocol Labs to accelerate their mission to support Web3 developers in building the foundation for a decentralized, globally connected future.

  • Fleek Network raised a $25mn Series A led by Polychain with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Protocol Labs, North Island Ventures, the LAO, and others, for the buildout of their decentralized CDN network.

  • Chainsafe raised an $18mn Series A led by Round 13 with participation from NGC, Hashkey Capital, Sfermion, and Jsquare to expand its blockchain gaming infrastructure tools.

  • TransCryptsraised a $2.4M pre-seed round co-led by Mark Cuban and Protocol Labs with participation from Techsars, The Fund, Alumni Ventures, and others. TransCrypts is a proud graduate of the Techstars Filecoin Accelerator program.
